Students Walkout Against Tuition Hikes

SURC west patio -- Students gathered around free pizza and music to protest Gov. Gregoire's proposed tuition hikes.
The proposed tuition hikes would allow universities to increase tuition by 14% each year for the next two years. Supporters argue that tuition hikes would cost students less in the long run because universities would be able to save programs otherwise likely to face the chopping board.
Opposing Students marched from the SURC to Barge hall where a handful gave testimonials to the board of trustees. The board listened eagerly as the students shared their stories and concern about the tuition hikes.
Chair, Sid Morrison encouraged students to take their stories home to gain support and provoke action from parents and friends.
The ASCWU has organized a free bus for students wishing to travel to Olympia on Feb. 15 to further protest budget cuts and tuition hikes.
